Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers

What is it about Weight Watchers that has made it one of the most popular diets out there for forty five years? In fact this weight loss program keep getting better as it matures.

Weight Watchers works with some simple logic: All food, in moderation, combined with exercise and support. It is easy to follow and those who are committed to follow the program usually have success.

There are currently a few different options to choose from once you decide to join Weight Wathcers.

The first one is the flex plan, and probably the one that most people know about. On this plan you have to stick to a certain amount of daily points per day. You find out how many points you are suppose to use once you sign up. Your points are calculated according to you weight. You also get detailed information about the points value of all the food you can eat. The point value is determined by the fat and dietary fiber amounts in the specific food. So, the flex plan is all about portion control. It seems rather restrictive, but you can eat all you favorite foods and they give you an extra 35 points a week to use however you like. There are recommendations that you need to adhere to if you want the plan to work for you. They recommend that you incorporate vegetable and fruit servings, water, dairy, healthy fat, a vitamin supplement and exercise into your daily plan.

The core plan has been added in recent years. It is a little more restrictive than the flex plan. On this plan you follow a list of food that are low in energy density and they make you feel more satisfied. These are the only foods you should be eating but you can eat however much you want. So in this case there is no portion control, but you are encouraged to listen to your body’s fullness signs and not eat beyond full. You also get your extra 35 points a week on the core plan.

The freedom with Weight Watchers is what makes it so appealing to so many people. They are not that restrictive with their food choices as some other diets like Atkins is. Granted the core does have a list of foods to avoid, but the plan still gives you the opportunity to indulge if you should ever feel the urge.

Another great new feature to Weight Watchers is the option to do it Online. This is very convenient, however, most people find that you still need to attend some meetings to get the maximum benefit.

Speaking of meetings: A great deal of the success of Weight Watchers lays in their support groups. If you attend the weekly meetings you have an accountability tool as well as support and encouragement in place. This is crucial to help you lose weight permanently, and more so if you have a lot of weight to lose.

Again, the weight will not come off as easily as with Atkins or other low carb diets, but the chance that you will fail is much smaller. So in the end the chance that you will stick to it, lose weight consistently, and keep it off is much bigger than with a low carb diet.

Please Note: I tried to give an unbiased review of the above mentioned diets.
However, I do not endorse diets that promises “quick fixes” or diets that restrict certain food.
In fact, according to research and my own experience these diets are extremely dangerous for a person with
food addiction and can even push you further into eating disorders.

I compiled an online Christian eating disorder program for women struggling with food. In one of the weeks we deal specifically with food and all the different diets out there. I give you my own experience with different diets, as well as those of the ladies I’ve encountered in support groups. Hearing personal stories and testimonies will give you a better idea of the pros and cons of some of the above reviewed diets.
Come find out how to make an educated decision and lose weight safe and permanently. Weight gain is only one of the components that needs to be addressed to permanently leave food addiction behind. In this program of 12 Weeks we deal with all the other causes of eating disorders and areas of your life that may have been affected by your eating disorder.
