Please answer the following list of questions carefully

This is not a test and the answers stay between you and God.
Use this tool to bring some truth to your heart and shake off denial for good.

1. Do thoughts of food occupy much of your time?

2. Are you preoccupied with a desire to be thinner and do you fear weight gain?

3. Do you starve to make up for binges?

4. Are you overweight despite concern by others for you to lose weight?

5. Do you binge and then vomit afterward?

6. Do you exercise excessively to burn of calories, rather than to stay fit?

7. Do you overeat by binging or by ‘grazing’ continuously?

25. Do you feel guilty after eating anything not allowed on your diet?

26. Do you follow unusual rituals while eating such as counting bites?

27. Do you feel out of control when you eat?

28. Do you feel that you do not deserve to eat?

29. Do you know the calorie content in all or almost all the food that you eat?

30. Do you feel the only control you have in your life is in the areas of food and weight?

31. Do you feel anger towards anyone who questions your eating habits?

32. Do you believe that everything in your life would be better if you lose weight?

33. Do you feel that you have to be perfect in everything that you do?

If you answered yes to three or more of the above questions, you may be dealing with an eating disorder. However, this is only an exercise in self discovery, designed to help you realize the seriousness of any compulsive eating habit. It is not a diagnostic tool. Only your physician is qualified to make a diagnosis and label your eating disorder, if one exists. So, if you feel you have identified an eating disorder in yourself for the first time, please see your physician for further evaluation.

I KNOW IT’S EASY TO GET DISCOURAGED AT THIS POINT BUT PLEASE REMEMBER:
God wants us to face the truth so that our journey to freedom can begin.
The Bible clearly states in John 8:32 (NIV):
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Repent of Pride

I challenge you to let God into your “heart of hearts” today.

Let Him put his finger on the very dangerous place where you might have hidden pride. The enemy hides pride behind all kind of  “innocent veils” so that we can stay in bondage. Don’t let him fool you any longer.
Repent of the sin of pride TODAY.

Pride has kept women, like you and I, from freedom, healthy family lives, great ministries and above all, a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus.

PLEASE PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME

Jesus, I never meant for pride to slip into my life, but it did.
I wasn’t even aware that I carried so much pride, but today I ask you to forgive me.
Come wash me from this sin of pride and please open my eyes to any hidden pride that can keep me from living life in abundance.
The enemy used pride to keep me from asking you to help me with my eating disorder.I believed that I could stop any time and that I was in perfect control, while I was in bondage, all along.
Please, show me all the places of pride in my life, daily.
I want to root it up for good.

Thank you that you love me God.
Thank you that I am totally accepted and loved by you.

DON’T GO ANY FURTHER TODAY!
Please apply the information to your life in the bite-size pieces that I recommend.
You will get the most out of it if you take  at least ONE DAY to talk things over with God and meditate on what God has been speaking to you.

TWO

Time to start a journal!

If you don’t have a journal, I would really recommend you go out and buy one or start a journal on your computer.
Also see our area where you can start up your own journal on the forum. Many ladies started journaling on there and told me that it has been very helpful and encouraging to them. Others who deal with the same issues came along side them to encourage them and pray for them. Sisters helping each other – it’s a beautiful thing!

Here is a link if you’re interested in starting your own journal on the forum: JOURNAL HERE

Journaling is a very effective tool that I have been using for years, so please don’t skip this, get your “journaling fingers” ready!

Ready?
  • Please write down the following verses in the front of your journal and ask God to let it come alive to you.
He wants you to read and enjoy the words He wrote to you.
  • You can also write these on note cards that you can take everywhere with you. The idea is to start reading these verses all the time until you’ve commit them to memory. If you are not familiar with memorizing Scripture, then let me encourage you that this will become one of your strongest weapons when the enemy comes at you with all his lies. The Word of God is our sword, our offensive weapon, so don’t be afraid to strap on your sword, you will be needing it in our journey together

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Would you look at this verse! God has good plans for you, yes you! He cares so much about you and He wants you to have a good future. He wants you to let go of the past and start something new with Him TODAY.

Micah 7:7-8 (AMP)
But as for me, I will look to the Lord and confident in Him I will keep watch;
I will wait with hope and expectancy for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
Rejoice not against me, O my enemy! When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me.

These verses meant so much to me, because I was sure that I have failed too many times for God to forgive me. I was sure that there was no more turning back for me and that I have used up all of my chances with God.
I remember shouting these verses at the enemy when he was telling me all those lies: “You keep quiet Satan! I don’t want to hear it, I might be doing this again and I might feel so gross about myself right now, but this is not where I’m going to stay. You better watch out, the Lord is my light, I am going to be free!”

Maybe it’s time for you to take a stand against the enemy who has been planting lies of guilt, shame, hopelessness, fear of failure, and insecurity in your mind. Please believe me when I tell you that it can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit by the truth of God’s Word!

Please make these verses your own, they’re not just in the Bible for some people, they are written by God FOR YOU!

DON’T GO ANY FURTHER TODAY!
Please apply the information to your life in the bite-size pieces that I recommend.
You will get the most out of it if you take  at least ONE DAY to talk things over with God and meditate on what God has been speaking to you.

THREE

Please Click on the Video below:

Today I have a very important question for you:

What does freedom mean to you?
Think about this for a second: What is it that you really want from God?

Here’s some of the dreams I had, to get you started…

  • Clothes that actually fit! (Especially on a Sunday morning)
  • Guts and ENERGY to pursue my dreams that I have buried so deep
  • Confidence in relationships (to trust in some and let go of others)
  • Playing and running with my kids (without feeling horrid about my body)
  • Getting rid of the condemning voices inside my head
  • Loving God in a new way (not just me constantly begging Him to help me with the food)
  • For crying out loud, just one Christmas without guilt about what I eat, and shame about how I look!
Now I want you to make your own list and write it down in your journal

You can do it!
Write down all those things Satan has stolen from you, and also write down all those long buried desires and dreams.
If you’re like me, you would probably start bawling at this point. It’s okay, you’re in good company; in fact the Bible says that in this moment there is a cloud of witnesses who came through their own struggles, cheering you on.

Hebrews12:1 (NIV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Maybe you don’t know what to write just yet, or maybe you only have one or two things you can think of.
Whatever the case might be, I know that God will reveal it to you now that we’ve stirred the water a little.

Please have a second look at your list: Do you have any idea what you have in your hands?
YOU ARE HOLDING YOUR OWN TICKET TO FREEDOM!

The desires that God has placed in our hearts are the things that the enemy tries to suppress with distractions.
He will keep you busy with all kinds of nonsense, which in turn leaves you depressed and dissatisfied.
These feelings need an outlet and you may start looking for something that can make you feel better or satisfy you.

However, the more we grow in our relationship with God, the more He reveals our purpose and desires: The reason why we are even alive, why He put us on this planet, why He created each and every one of us. It work both ways, the more we fulfill our purpose in life, the more we want to praise and glorify God.

We literally come alive when we are doing the things we were born to do.

God made each one of us in such a special and unique way, but somehow we all get swept up in life, the busyness or the monotonous cycles, and before we know it, we’ve lost ourselves.

So I’m here to remind you dearest one: THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO YOU THAN THIS EATING DISORDER!

Hidden behind years of struggle and obsessing about weight, food, diets, and junk lies the TRUE YOU.  I dare you to find her!

We will talk more about all of this in Week 2, but I want to encourage you to search your heart, start to think back when you were just a little girl, think of what you loved to do or the dreams you had.

When last have you done something truly amazing? Not amazing to others, not something you did to impress or please anyone, but something you thought was truly amazing because you loved it!

When last did you laugh out loud? When last did you feel the hours pass by like minutes because you were doing something that you felt really passionate about?

I know she’s in there somewhere, the daughter of the King, and she wants to come out…

AH FREEDOM!
Like me, you might have had a deep longing for years to just experience a little taste of freedom.
And guess what, if God could set me free He can definitely do it for you!

Please take today and the rest of the Week to find out what it is that you really want: From God, from this program, from others, from yourself and from life.

DON’T GO ANY FURTHER TODAY!
Please apply the information to your life in the bite-size pieces that I recommend.
You will get the most out of it if you take  at least ONE DAY to talk things over with God and meditate on what God has been speaking to you.

FOUR

Please Click on the Video below:

Please write down the following statement in your journal:

Admitting that I have an eating disorder and that I am powerless to change this by myself is the first step to victory and recovery.

If you recognized this as the first step used in a 12 Step Program, you were right. We are not going to use the 12 steps, but some of these steps are crucial for healing. This first step is one of them. Not only will it make you stop looking for a way to “fix this thing” by yourself, but it will also help you start thinking about turning to others and especially to God for help.

You see, as long as we have faith in our own best efforts, we don’t have faith left to put in an Almighty, All-powerful God.

Now, I want you to have a good look at what you have written. This might be the first time ever that you are admitting to yourself that you are powerless to change the way you deal with food on your own. Actually, you might not even believe it yet.

Something that might be holding you back right now is UNBELIEF.

Let me boost your faith a little:
Our God is a wonderful, almighty, all-powerful God.
The way we know that and build faith in Him is by getting to know Him. It’s all about relationship. Think about the people on this earth that you trust and have faith in: They are usually people you know well, you know their character and they have proven themselves worthy of your trust.

God has already proven that he can be trusted and that He loves us by giving us His Son. He wants to have relationship with you.

Listen… GOD CAN DO ANYTHING!!
SO, IF HE DIDN’T SET YOU FREE YET, THEN THERE IS A REASON.

If you start to build a deep and intimate relationship with God, He will show you his purpose for your life, and how to get out of this bondage. He speaks through His Word, His people, and the Holy Spirit.

Don’t stress if you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about. I will explain this in the weeks to come. I’m basically telling you that you need a type of relationship with God that can go the distance.

See this verse in Jeremiah 33:3 (Amplified Bible):
Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).

Do you trust that God can and wants to help you?
  • Maybe, like me, you didn’t even realized that you stopped trusting God.
  • You might even be blaming him for the situation you find yourself in right now.
  • Maybe, like me, you have been putting your trust in yourself, diets, different programs and people for a long time.
  • Maybe, like me, you have to stop and remind yourself that you are turning your back on your ONLY HOPE – The Only One who can save you!

If this is true for you, then this might be a good time to repent from unbelief.
Did you know that we need faith to please God, to keep hope alive, and to move forward in this life.

Please have a look at these Scriptures about FAITH:

Hebrews 11:6(NIV)
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
We live by faith, not by sight.

Mark 6:6 (NIV)
And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Are you ready for some more faith? Do you want to believe again?

It’s as easy as asking God. Have a look at this guy in the Bible who asked:

Mark 9:24 (NIV)
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

I believe the boy’s father really wanted to believe, but he didn’t know how to do it, so he asked Jesus to get him there.

Do you need help getting to a place of trusting God and giving your eating disorder over to Him?

Starting asking today. God wants to increase your faith. He knows you, he knows how you work, and he is the only ONE who can heal you.

I invite you to join me in this prayer if you are ready to lay down unbelief

Lord, please forgive me for not trusting you to help me with my eating disorder.
Forgive me for trying all this time to do this on my own and shutting you out of this part of my life.

I repent today from unbelief; please help me to believe that you can heal me.

I stand on your Word today that says ‘…with God all things are possible’(Matthew 19:26) I will no longer believe the lies of the enemy. This is not too big for you God, but this is not just some little thing that I have to take care of either.
This is not something I will have to carry for the rest of my life. Your Word says that you have come to set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1) and you don’t want me to be in bondage. You want me to live a life of abundance (John 10:10).

I submit my life to you Lord.

Please use your Word and this study to change me, all of me, forever.

Amen.

Please take the rest of this week to pray and think about this matter of unbelief.
Let the Holy Spirit speak to you about laying down all of your own striving to try and change this area of your life. You are not alone in this; the Holy Spirit has been given to you as your comforter and helper (John 16:4).

Tip for you:

I’ve written a post about faith on my blog. It also includes a short testimony of one of the members. Please click here to read it if you need a “faith-boost”: Faith can move mountains!

DON’T GO ANY FURTHER TODAY!
Please apply the information to your life in the bite-size pieces that I recommend.
You will get the most out of it if you take  at least ONE DAY to talk things over with God and meditate on what God has been speaking to you.

FIVE

Please Click on the Video below:

Please copy the following passage from Scripture into your journal:

Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV)

The Year of the LORD’s Favor

1The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.

4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.

These words were referring to the One who would come to set the captives free, heal the broken hearted, and bring good news to the poor. I have memorized this passage and it has become such a source of  encouragement and power to me through the years, especially on days when my flesh is weak and the attacks are fierce.

JESUS HAS COME TO SET US FREE!

Please keep journaling and memorizing Scripture – these are mighty weapons at your disposal.

God will keep on revealing areas of pride in your life, write those down and repent from pride daily if necessary.

WARNING:

Be aware of doubt and discouragement coming from the enemy. He hates it that you want freedom, he wants you to stay in pride and denial, but you DO NOT HAVE TO FEAR.
Remember ‘… the One who is in you is greaterthan the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4b (NIV)
We will be dealing with the voices of condemnation we hear and how to surrender all of our lives to God next week. Please do not listen to the enemy telling you that this is not going to work either, he just doesn’t want you to hear the truth.

Dearest sister in Christ,

I really care about your freedom. I am bringing you the story of my life and my testimony of freedom, SO GOD WILL USE IT IN ANY WAY HE SEES FIT TO BRING YOU TO A PLACE OF FREEDOM AND HEALING.

In His Love,
Heleen

  • Gwen says:

although I am behind I do want to to stay in the program because it is helping me get thruogh my pains and struggles with food and I do want a relationship with God and be able to share my feeling with others because I feel so alone.

  • Tricia M says:

God has guided me to this place of informaiton and interest. He has used Heleen’s insight to lead me back to a place that I ran away from. This journey started as a search for an end to a food addiction but has headed down a path that is much greater. I am considering the rest of the program…for many reasons.

  • Maria says:

Thank you Heleen. I am thanking God for showing me your site. I am excited to pursue freedom in Christ, writing out my “freedom” list just made me cry because they are all attainable goals if I could only allow God to break this stronghold of food in my life.

  • Erin says:

Heleen, I am so grateful to Jesus and you for helping such a broken christian. My struggle has brought me to pit of despair and all I could see is that there seemed to be no way out of my mess. I have found new hope again this week and I’m experiencing a deeper intimacy and desire to want to know Jesus more and truly surrender to him. SURRENDER is the big word that God has been whispering in my ear this week and even before finding your site. I kept asking God to take away something that I wasn’t whole heartedly willing to give. Its amazing how God reveals such things to you. My faith is getting stronger and I’m excited to see what next week holds. Thanks!

  • Cindie says:

The Lord is really using this in my life to reveal unbelief, and He has brought me to repentance. Reading the material and studying the scriptures has given me a glimmer of hope that I so desperately needed in my life right now. Thank you Heleen for being obedient to the Lord’s calling on your life!

  • Diane says:

Thank you Heleen for sharing your story. God brought me to this site for a reason, not just a coincidence. I easily admit to being a food addict, but pride and unbelief are huge obstacles for me.I am behind, but that’s okay. I plan on completing this journey no matter how long it takes. But, I have noticed that the days I’m away from this site are days that I let satan overwhelm me. God bless everyone on this journey.

  • Yvonne says:

First off, I admit I have a sin problem with food that consists of binging and “grazing”. For the last year I have been trying to lose weight, but keep sabotaging my efforts when I do. I know I need God’s help in overcoming this sin and feel God has led me to your site to finally get that help. Thank you so much for your openness of your own life. It has helped me so much this week to see I am not alone in this problem and there is hope and freedom through Christ!

  • Elizabeth says:

Thankyou for helping me through week one. I really didnt know what to expect, I thought I Knew everything I could possibly know and tried everything, How wrong I was! I can only look forward to the coming weeks and believe in God for my complete healing and freedom.

  • Jen says:

Thank you Heleen! I have tried everything before this! I spent hours online searching and searching and trying and trying. Finally God brought me to you. Thank you for believing in me and helping me through this. God made something beautiful out of your struggles and I pray that by the end of this He will do the same with me.

  • Heleen says:

Ladies, I have tears streaming down my cheeks as I read the comments on here. How amazing is our God that He would use something I’ve put on the web to reach each one of you in your particular corner of the world? I hope you each realize how much He cares about you. Each one of you are a princess, a daughter of the King of all kings! I am so honored to stand in prayer with all of you and I’m believing God to bring freedom and healing to each of your lives.
    In His Love
    Heleen

  • Patty says:

I have signed up for all 12 courses. I am looking forward to what God is going to teach me. I have really enjoyed this first week. Thank you :-) and have a blessed day.

  • Julie M says:

What an overwhelming week! I need some time to process this and wait for God to move. I am riddled with Pride and Denial and Unbelief. I need to spend some time just on these things. God and I have always moved at a slower place. This is only the second time He has pointed at something I don’t want to give up. I have a feeling i am not near as ready to give in this time. I am greatful He knows me so well that He has brought me through a graduating process. This one is going to be difficult. I have always been really good at going through the motions of recovery without having my heart in it. I have always done it because I know I should. My submission has not been that of joyfulness but task mastering. I know I need to get my heart in the game once and for all.
Thank-you to Heleen for your obedience in this service to those of us who need the teaching.

  • Heleen says:

You’re so welcome Julie! What a privilege it is for me to stand in this ministry and see how God changes women from the inside out. I pray for supernatural Holy Spirit driven change to come to your life Julie.
    Heleen

  • shirin says:

I do not know how to thank you enough Heleen! I wish my english was better ,that way I could be able to tell you how much your program has helped me so far.even I just started it but I can feel the diffrence.

  • Heleen says:

Thank you for writing on here Shirin. I’m so glad to hear that God is already using this program to touch you! I will be praying for you.
    Heleen

  • jan says:

Thank you Heleen, I am amazed at the verses you are giving in week one….the Lord has been showing me all these verses for some time now some for years and I cry tears of joy because I know I am going to be free now and that I am not the only one who struggles with this….praise God for His mercy and thank you again for sharing your story with all of us!

  • Heleen says:

You’re so very welcome Jan! How amazing is our God that He brings along exactly what we need in they way we need to hear it. I will pray for you for healing and freedom as you go trough this program Jan.

  • baker6farm says:

I have long pondered what surrender really is and how it looks in a persons life… and after reading your testimony, Heleen, I know that it’s possible. I’ve never TRULY laid down my life at God’s feet. To me, surrender is so much bigger than my poor eating/health habits. When I think of TOTAL surrender, I imagine that I need to lay down every fear & failure that I cling to SO tightly. While sitting at my “study spot” in my kitchen early this morning, it occurred to me that my food issues are only the tip of the iceberg. You see, I was sexually abused for many years as a child, and I’ve never truly felt that my body was my own. I pray to re-gain that connection through Christ. What occurred to me this morning, however, is that my GREATEST FEAR… my most gripping and paralyzing fear… is losing my husband and my children. The bond that I felt I never had with my own parents is something I DON’T EVER WANT TO LOSE with my husband and 4 kids. Because of that fear, I feel “stuck” in my faith… that if I relinquish the power I claim to have over my husband and children, I will somehow be giving them up and threatening the single most precious bond I have in my life. I am seeing that it is not having faith, and at it’s core is unbelief… LORD, PLEASE HELP MY UNBELIEF. Heleen, I pray that the journey ahead with your program will help me to relinquish ALL areas of control in my life… thank you for living your calling and allowing us to learn through your transparency. PRAISE GOD for your ministry!

  • Sandra says:

Wow! I am so amazed about how God has used your experience to touch my life already during these days! I will be praying for you and your ministry to flourish and thank you so much for going after God’s plan for your life. I really need some prayer to break the habits and the thought patterns which leads me to overeating and shame and all this you describe so well…. God bless you

  • Julie Doggendorf says:

    Helen,
I just signed up for the free first week. I am a believer, and I have struggled with bulimia for 11 years, and with other eating disorders for as long as I can remember. Hope deferred has made my heart sick…that is where I feel that I am. It is extremely difficult to believe that anything can help me at this point, and it seems impossible to feel God’s love and His presence. I am going to sign up for the 12 weeks. I feel that I have begged for this for so long, but please pray with me for a breakthrough . I can’t say that I have much faith to believe I can be free, but I want it. I want freedom so badly. I want to feel alive with joy and have peace with God more than anything. Thank you for reaching out in this way and sharing your struggle. Your life is a testimony of hope to so many who feel alone and hopeless from this struggle.
Thank you Helen and may God bless you.
    love,
    Julie

  • Heleen says:

    Hi Julie
I pray even now as I read this for breakthrough for you Julie. God can give you faith, even as small as a mustard seed, to move this mountain of food struggles out of your life. Our freedom is truly wrapped up in relationship with Jesus, so that means that if you start searching after Jesus with all your heart, you will find Him and you will find freedom from this food struggle. He is interested in fixing your whole life for you Julie, not just this one area, and this kind of change is found in a love relationship with Him. You don’t have to do any of it, He will do it for you, you just need to come to Him. I pray that God will use this program, and other material and people as well, to draw you into His presence daily, and help you find healing and freedom in Him.
Here is a verse for you: Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Sandra, thanks so much for writing on here. I pray this very minute for breakthrough for you. I know that those things that are impossible for us to change is POSSIBLE FOR GOD. God is ready and willing to help you break those habits and those thought patterns and replace it with the truth of His Word. I pray that He will use my program, and also lead you to exactly the things you need to hear and read that will help you “renew your mind” and bring it under God’s authority. This struggle in the mind is exactly where the war for our freedom rages Sandra. So keep picking up the Bible daily to refute those lies with the truth of God’s Word. Even Jesus took on the enemy in the desert by quoting Scripture. I believe this is an example for us to daily get rid of the lies of the enemy and the world around us telling us that we will never be free.
    John 8:32
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
